"Your mantle did not wear out upon you, nor did your foot become swollen these forty years." (Deuteronomy 8:4)
Jehovah had assured the Israelites that he would sustain his people. Shortly after their deliverance from Egypt, God promised them: "Here I am raining down bread for you from the heavens; and the people must go out and pick up each his amount day for day." Sure enough, God provided that 'bread from heaven.' "When the sons of Israel got to see it, they began to say to one another, 'What is it?'" It was manna, the bread that Jehovah had promised them. (Exodus 16:4, 13-15) For 40 years in the wilderness, Jehovah cared for the Israelites, providing them with food and water. He even saw to it that their mantles did not wear out and that their feet did not become swollen. (Deuteronomy 8:3) Joshua witnessed it all. Jehovah delivered, protected, and sustained his people, just as he had promised them.

*a funny side point...the Hebrew word for manna is 'man hu' (which was mentioned above) literally means "What is it?" Isn't that funny? Can't you just see them waking up that first morning and walking outside their tents and going "man hu?" kind of like today when people do the "What the?" with "Merrrr?" voice inflection. I don't know how to spell it but the noise Homer Simpson makes when he sees something weird that he doesn't understand. hahaha.
On a slightly more serious note, have you guys also noticed how far ahead the "spiritual food" coming out is? If you check out the dates of the current study edition of The Watchtower which is available on our audio download page, you can see that the material is already prepared for us through the end of December. Its only July right now. The faithful & discreet slave class has always prepared spiritual food for us ahead of schedule, but its never been available this far ahead. I don't know ... It reminds me of how Jehovah provided the Israelites with double the amount of manna that was needed on the 6th day, so that it would last them through the sabbath day when no manna was available. (Exodus 16:29, 30) Thats just one more indication that can give us confidence when it comes to Jehovah's ability to provide for his people. He makes sure that both our physical and spiritual needs are taken care of, so we don't ever have to be 'overly-anxious' (Matthew 6:25-34).
